36 Days of Type

36 Days of Type is a global design challenge that pushes creatives to rethink how each letter and number can be visually represented. At SOKA, we took this as an opportunity to experiment with 3D forms, textures, and motion—turning typography into a dynamic playground of creativity.

ABOUT

Typography meets dimension. For 36 Days of Type, we reimagined letters and numbers through bold 3D explorations - blending form, texture, and motion to create visuals that each letter can represent.

STYLE

Crafting a consistent style while allowing each letter to stand out with its own unique story was a challenge that required a balance between structure and creativity. The goal was to maintain a cohesive visual language while ensuring every letter had its own distinct personality, expressed through motion and design.

With countless ideas flowing, it was crucial to define certain boundaries—such as placement, camera angles, animation timing, and overall composition—to create a seamless yet diverse series. Each letter became a small, self-contained narrative: the Chocolatey ‘C’ dripping in richness, the Electric ‘E’ buzzing with energy, the Press ‘F’ paying homage to gaming culture, the Dissolving ‘D’ fading away, and the International Earth Day ‘I’ celebrating global awareness. These constraints didn’t limit creativity; they enhanced it, allowing each letter to tell its story while fitting within a unified system.

TECHNOLOGY

This project was an exploration of typography in a three-dimensional space, pushing the boundaries of how letters can be brought to life. The process began in Adobe Illustrator, where the base letterforms were designed with precision. These were then taken into Blender, where depth, textures, and motion were carefully crafted to give each letter its unique personality. Finally, Premiere Pro was used to refine the animations, stitch everything together, and ensure a polished final output.

One of the biggest challenges was the lack of direct references—3D typography in this style hadn’t been widely explored before. This meant experimenting with forms, materials, and movement without a predefined roadmap, making every letter an opportunity to discover new visual possibilities.
